From as far back as the early 90s, and maybe even before: Music, illustration, fiction, the average Joe has always thought these things should be free for him to have, and that it's all just hobbies. That people should get "real" jobs. That if he has to work at McDonalds, so do you.

The general population has always placed less value on creative work, and this all just makes it 10 times worse, and makes these people feel vindicated.

I've spent decades watching artists, and _being_ an artist online hollering into the void "Buy my fuckin work!" to the tune of rich dudes snidely firing back, "Music is my hobby, I couldn't imagine expecting to be paid for it."
