dev tip: before committing, run git diff --cached --check. it checks your staged changes for conflict markers and whitespace errors, including trailing spaces under Git's default rules. drop --cached to check unstaged changes in tracked files.

it won't find your logic bug, but it can catch the seven spaces accompanying it.
