From GoToSocial and Back to Mastodon

It’s been a wild ride since I shutdown my Mastodon instance here on mkultra.monster. From spending time on Bluesky, and being disappointed by their financial and political decisions, to joining numerous instances on the Fediverse. Instances on software like, Sharkey, Misskey, Akkoma, Friendica, and, of course, GoToSocial. But, as things go, I’m back on Mastodon.

Over on null.mkultra.social I’ve launched a brand new Mastodon instance, that basically mirrors the old one, except it’s on slightly beefier hardware. Thank god. Because it needs it.

But what made me switch from GoToSocial, straight back to Mastodon?

Well, a tiny, tiny percentage of it has to do with a harasser linking directly to my GTS profile in an abusive attempt to have me “fediblocked,” but the bigger reason is, after using GTS for so much time … it’s cheap, yeah! But also, once you start federating with thousands of instances, you kind of realize that, it’d be nice to be able to discover people outside of who you’re already following?

That, and despite how cool the GTS software is, I really don’t like how it’s just got no front-end.

You have to use someone else’s jank software to interact with it, or only use it on your phone through the good apps.

And on Mastodon I have the “Fediverse creator” tags that show up on all my blog post links, and an entire internet that’s better integrated with the Mastodon software … because, it’s the most advertised and hyped-up Fediverse client.

But, I don’t know, that’s why! I do hope that the apparently erased federated timeline that I’m seeing on the flagship instance isn’t a change they’re pushing out any time soon, though. The Fediverse is about the federated timeline, bro.

Don’t erase it!
