So, nobody’s really “reporting” on this, and, for all intents and purposes, I’m not a reporter. Never-the-less, nobody’s really writing about this, either. I suppose it’s partially because Meta and its platforms already jumped the shark about a million times in the past six months, and anybody who’s anyone, or anyone who’s not an influencer already deeply embedded on their platforms, knows, Meta apps are garbage. Suffice to say, if you have an account on Instagram, there’s a good chance you’ve already, or are about to lose your account.

And, since accounts on Instagram are being wiped away, you can’t exactly log into Threads to ask anyone if they know what’s going on, or why this is happening. In fact, the only way to know that this is happening to many, many people, is by … looking at the Instagram Subreddit?

The only assumption you can make, is that the absolute knobs behind moderation at Meta are testing their AI moderation, or … something. I’m sure I don’t have to hammer on over and over again, even more, about how antithetical to human interaction it is to use chatbots to moderate social media, but that’s the ridiculous world we now live in, thanks to the likes of Zuckerberg, Musk, Altman, and Nadella.

But, as far as Meta goes, they’ve already solidified that their platforms are deeply unserious, and worthless to actual people looking for genuine connection. Especially with their most recent transgression, in codifying bigotry into their Terms of Service.

You know me, though, I have this entire website built around maintaining my own data and blocking out the slop-suckers. And, while I do, or, at this point, had a couple Instagram accounts, it’s not too terrifying to see them go. But it is pretty wild to watch the company just simply wipe out millions of accounts with automated shitware. If people had online digital rights, I’d imagine it could be something to spawn a lawsuit. But, alas, that sort of thing doesn’t exist.

Thankfully, though, there are plenty of lawsuits out there against plagiarist tech.

If you’re reading this, and you’ve lost your Meta accounts and you’re looking at Bluesky, stop! Wait a minute. Hold on. Bluesky is funded by crypto, NFT bros, and Jay Graber doesn’t give a shit about you, or the safety of your identity, data, or your physical self, as a likely marginalized person.

We led Bluesky's $15M Series A 🦋 We’re excited to support @bsky.app in their mission to build an open foundation for the social internet and give power back to users. More on our thesis ↓ www.blockchaincapital.com/blog/bluesky...
