mkultra.monster Now Acts as a Single-User ActivityPub Instance

It was wild, it was nuts, it was the most ambitious project ever! It was refined urani–er, I mean. The backend of this website is now running, and you read that correctly, running, ActivityPub. What the hell? What the heck? What do you MEAN this website is running ActivityPub? This ain’t no Mastodon! I don’t see a timeline! Where’s Johnny 2 Fingers talkin’ about Linux Mint?!

Lemme stop you right there, Billy Bob.

This is accomplished, not with Mastodon, not with Akkoma, not with GoToSocial, but a custom shim built on Mastodon API routing that effectively ressurects my dead Mastodon account, cmdr_nova@mkultra.monster, and its companion bridged account on Bluesky, https://bsky.app/profile/cmdr-nova.mkultra.monster.ap.brid.gy.

Not only that, but you can follow this website by using the follow button on the main page! From your ActivityPub account!

This user page effectively shows everything being federated: https://mkultra.monster/users/cmdr_nova and could some day soon replace the front page of this website (although, I don’t currently have the energy to do that, and I’m on vacation from work!)

If all works correctly, this blog post, plus anything I post as a “note” should federate as a post, jsut a normal post.

But we’ll see.

mkultra.monster is independent, in that it is written, developed, and maintained by one person. Written, developed, and maintained, not for scrapers, bots, scammers, algorithms, or grifters: But for people to follow and read, just like the way it used to be, back in the golden age of the internet.

How responses work

To show up in webmentions, your response must be public and contain an exact link to this post. webmention.io fetches the source URL after submission and verifies that link.

  • Blog posts, notes, and public pages work best.
  • Fediverse and Bluesky responses often arrive through a bridge such as Bridgy.
  • The Fediverse comments panel loads direct replies from the associated Mastodon post.
