NovaLandia Grid, Now Open Registration

It’s been a tumultuous couple of months, between online-ing and developing VAAK, work, and deciding that I do want to dedicate more time to my OpenSim grid, I’ve been busy! Needless to say, I have some announcements that I should put into a blog post so that they’re more easily reachable/readable, for people who haven’t decided to act like I no longer exist for using current technology to make the things I want to do, faster, and easier, as a normal person with a full time job.

First announcement): the NovaLandia OpenSim grid is now free to register on! Not only that, but as a member of the NovaLandia group, you can grab and own one parcel within the new 30-region expanse: The Phyria Isles (one parcel per account).

When you’re in the landing area, you may also notice a slight carbon-cop of my own avatar named “Shana Flux” walking around. Talk to her! Use her name in order to initiate a public message, or IM her directly! This is my local LLM/AI.

Why have a local AI? Well, cloud-based LLMs are neat, but they come with hefty prices, and annoying token limits. I also kind of hate the idea of queries being “tokens” like this is fuckin … chucky cheese or something. So, I downloaded a model, and installed it onto my own PC+the OpenSim grid. So now, anyone can interact with her (with obvious rate-limiting so that you don’t crash the server). Shana has per-user identity and memory. And, as far as I know, NovaLandia Online is likely one of the first grids to have a resident AI (among other things).

Second Announcement: Due to cost control and constraints to do with my ability to cover many things at once, and inability to do so at times, I’ll be shutting down the combination Mastodon/Wafrn server on November 2nd. I already made a post about this on the Wafrn server, but, just in case users there haven’t seen it yet, for some reason. Please take steps required in order to move your account.

The reason I’m doing this, is because I’ve been focusing mainly on VAAK, and this is stealing a lot of my attention, especially because VAAK is being refactored from PHP to Rust, and it also has an algorithm, and a downranking system, and a lot of intricate pieces. I realized that, it’s not fair to people joining my Wafrn to basically have me there looking at it once a day, and then going back to VAAK, when you should have an admin who is watching at all times.

In Closing:

And that’s about it, so, come join the grid, take a look around! It’s now free! Although, you can still support the grid and it’s costs, here.
